Educational Podcasts

Posted by admin on December 13th, 2011

One of the most bountiful sources of educational podcasts is perhaps the University of Oxford podcast series. This is a free site featuring public lectures, teaching material, interviews with leading academics, information about applying to the University, and plenty of other useful material.

The user will be able to access the material that may be in audio, video or document format. In the full list of all series, you can browse the podcasts alphabetically, or by the number of episodes, or by the date of update, and of course by the popularity. Alternately, you can look up the featured podcasts lists – of people, series, and departments & colleges.

Popularity of Podcasting Technology

Posted by admin on August 8th, 2011
“Podcasting is the best way to showcase your talent, especially with commercial radio running out of space for personality” says Olly Mann of the award-winning ‘Answer Me This’ podcast.

Podcasting became a buzzword in the year 2005. It was named as the word of the year by the New Oxford American Dictionary that year. There are estimates that more than 150,000 podcasts are available, on a variety of subjects.

This BBC report titled Podcasts: Who still listens to them? on the status of ‘old-fashioned’ podcasting sums up the phenomenon – “podcasting still offers is a chance for anyone to get behind a microphone and, for all intents and purposes, make a radio programme”. Fans of the podcasting technology will be glad to hear that “Podcasting remains more popular than the social media site Twitter”.

How would you like to use podcasting technology?

Posted by admin on December 9th, 2010

Is podcasting meant only for music sharing? Of course not. This relatively new method of audio file distribution has opened whole new doors to mass communication and internet / mobile marketing opportunities for businesses large and small.
At one end of the technology – the source – you can use podcasting technology for all kids of purposes ranging from educational training (tutorials, debates, foreign language teaching, walking guides, etc.) to entertainment (audio books, talk shows, music demos, stories, comedy clips and the like).
At the other end – the receiver or the subscriber has the power of choice – “what?”, “how?” and “when?”. The subscriber decides on what content is relevant, the medium on which the information is downloaded, and a convenient time for listening to the sound bytes.
Try it out – podcasting is here to stay, evolve and deliver.
